Howard Keith Debono, the president of MEIA commented “I believe we have alot of valid people here and I certainly would like to see them all involved in some way or other. It took a pandemic to get the whole industry represented through an association with one common voice. This is long overdue. We’re all determined and want to start working immediately.”

The elected Executive Committee will reserve the right to change or add more advisory members if there's need to do so. These can be already existing entities, indivuals representing a larger group, already formed or newly formed associations or foundations specific to a sector within the entertainment & Arts industry.

The president of Chamber of Commerce, David Xureb added “This is an impressive start to see so many high-profile and talented people offer their time to support this association and such an initiative. I’m excited about this association especially because it represents the creative sector which is integral to our future and how decisions are made.”

The general meeting was concluded with one final vote by the members who’ve also approved the Statute to officially launch MEIA. Further info will be published in the coming days.

Welcome to the First New item of MEIA

Date: 26th June 2020

We would like to first of all thank you for taking interest in this initiative.

In recent weeks various key people with different roles within the industry covering all sectors namely: Music, Theatre, Film, Art & Dance, have started discussing how best to have this industry in Malta represented & protected. The various roles include creators, performers, promoters, producers, suppliers & all technical people who work in the entertainment industry covering all different sectors. We simply cannot remain invisible to the respective authorities. This was initiated by Howard Keith with a facebook post in March during the pandemic where various key people shared the urgency as well as the long-term need for such a representation.

The goal is to have all sectors, roles & genres come together, representing the Malta Entertainment Industry. Presently our industry has no legal structures or representation. This means we're also not acknowledged by any authority, union, chamber & therefore have no voice collectively. Together we can change that!

It’s very important to clarify & understand that this does not belong to anyone, one person, company or group of individuals. This will be a non-profit organization, which will hold an annual general meeting with all its members who will appoint the best representatives to raise issues, demand changes, protect & promote our common interests. Unfortunately, it’s a proven fact that the entertainment industry is always the first to get the hit & the last to recover during recessions & challenging times.

Consequently, a URL page was set up as well as facebook page. Although gathering data & members joining will be ongoing, The Chamber of Commerce has informed us that we have enough interest shown by the numerous submissions to go to the next step.

The Next step is to appoint a board. An e-mail will be sent to all members with details of how this will be carried out.

The Statute has now been published for interested members as well as the public to view. This can be found in the ABOUT tab on this site which will also include the elected board once the voting process is done.

We’re not wasting any time due to the reality of the pandemic & how the Industry is being affected as well as dealing with the relevant authorities & policy makers which clearly seem to be a common area of concern. In view of this, a priority list of agendas & areas of concern will be included in the Member’s area where we will also depend on your feedback. We encourage you to be active in the association to ensure we tackle all issues one by one.
